This large manufacturing facility is located on a 60 acre tract of land, about 20 miles north of Alexandria, Louisiana on La. Hwy. 1. Boise Cascade manufactures engineered wood products such as I-joists, glulam beams and rimboard. To accomodate the plant's tight production schedule, both design and construction were phased and prioritized. Included in the scope of the project was the structural design of foundations, retaining walls, and piers to support a 1.5 million pound hot press (largest in the world).

Since the orginal plant was constructed in 1995, MML&H has designed 12 expansion projects to bring the total building area to 458,000 square feet (over 10 acres). As the professional of record, MML&H has also been responsible for State Fire Marshal submittals and review of fire alarm and fire suppression system submittals.

Some of the civil engineering tasks performed included:

  • Foundation of design of buildings, columns and equipment
  • Structural design of mezzanine floor, foundation and stairs
  • Design of concree and asphaltic concrete paving for drives and parking areas
  • Structural design of separate office buildings
  • Construction layout for critical equipment
